Product Description
NF P92-505 Dripping Test Apparatus
Product introduction
NF P92 Combustion Analyzer Flammability Test Panel for Building Materials meet international standards NF P92-505, EU 95/28 / EC, ECE technical specifications and requirements of R118 Annex 7 of these Regulations. According to NF P 92-505 request, the test is additional test for M-class building materials. NF P92 Combustion Analyzer Flammability Test Panel for Building Materials is suitable for hot melt material effect in the primary heat source to evaluate the performance of dripping and burning performance testing. Flexible and thin materials can be tested.
Principle
In principle, cotton wool inflammation at the dripping test leads to M4 classification. If the cotton wool is not inflamed at the dripping test, the classification obtained at the main test is maintained or the material is downgraded according to whether there was some uninflamed or inflamed dripping during this same main test. In case of holing without inflammation or with short time inflammation at the main test, this outline is also applied to the complementary flame persistency test (NF P 92-504) when there was again some uninflamed or inflamed dripping during this complementary test.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What does the NF P 92‑505 test actually measure?
A1: It measures whether molten drips falling from a heated specimen ignite cotton wool placed in a receptacle below. This directly determines whether the material receives an M4 classification (highest flammability) or retains its rating from the primary fire test.
Q2: When do I need to run this test?
A2: You run this test when dripping (with or without flame) is observed during the main reaction‑to‑fire test – either NF P 92‑501 for rigid/thick materials or NF P 92‑503 for flexible/thin materials.
Q3: What happens if the cotton wool catches fire?
A3: The material is automatically classified as M4 – the highest flammability rating under the French M‑classification system. No further testing is required for that classification decision.
Q4: What types of materials can be tested?
A4: Thermal‑melting materials including thermoplastics, flexible foams, synthetic textiles, composite laminates, and cable insulations – essentially any material that may melt and drip when exposed to heat.
Q5: How is the apparatus calibrated?
A5: Calibration is performed using a calorimeter in accordance with NF P 92‑505, and a water‑cooled heat flux meter in accordance with ECE R118 Annex 7, ensuring precise and repeatable radiant output.
Q6: Does this equipment meet international standards beyond French regulations?
A6: Yes – it complies with NF P 92‑505, EU 95/28/EC, and is suitable for testing under ECE R118 Annex 7, making it applicable for automotive, railway, and construction testing globally.
