- Gas supply & combustion – Blower provides continuous gas; compressor supplies intermittent air. Gas control panel: needle valve for flame height, MFC for flux with digital display. Inverter‑controlled blower and Venturi mixer ensure stable air/gas ratio and flame.
- Radiant plate & burner – Heat-resistant honeycomb ceramic plate (300×450 mm, 30° inclined). T‑shaped porous burner with auto‑ignition and automatic specimen push system.
- Calibration – Porous calibration apparatus adjusts radiant output by upward, left, or right movement.
- Chamber & exhaust – Inner chamber lined with heat‑ and corrosion‑resistant aluminium silicate plates. Stainless steel ventilation hood on top. Chimney has one thermocouple; another thermocouple inside chamber – both monitored by software.
- Measurement & control – Heat flux meter with portable water cooling (no external running water). IR radiometer displays plate temperature. Optical system with 2900±100 K light source and advanced signal receiver. Integrated 19″ PC with LabVIEW software for data acquisition and control.
- Optional – Smoke density testing system available on request.
Application
Material Testing: Suitable for various floor coverings like textile carpets, cork, wood, rubber, plastic flooring, and floor coating materials
Construction & Building: Testing flame spread and combustion characteristics of flooring materials used in homes, offices, and public spaces
Transportation: Evaluating fire performance of flooring in railways, aviation, and shipping
Insulation Materials: Can also measure the critical radiation of attic floor cellulose insulation
Compliance & Classification: Provides essential data for certification and for fire safety classifications like the Euroclass system (A2FL, BFL, CFL, DFL)
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What materials can this test, and which standards does it meet?
A1: It tests almost all floor coverings – textile carpets, cork, wood, rubber, vinyl, and sprayed coatings. It fully complies with ISO 9239‑1/‑2, ASTM E648, ASTM E970, NFPA 253, and GB/T 11785‑2005, so your results are accepted worldwide.
Q2: What does it actually measure, and what are the key specs?
A2: It measures critical radiant flux – the minimum heat level needed to sustain flame spread – giving you a clear fire‑risk rating. Key specs: 300×450 mm ceramic radiant plate (up to ~900 °C), heat flux meter (0‑15 kW/m², ±0.2 kW/m²), and exhaust flow 2.5 m/s.
Q3: How accurate and repeatable are the results?
A3: Very. The gas supply uses a mass flow controller and a Venturi mixer with inverter‑controlled blower for a steady air‑fuel ratio. You can fine‑tune output with a 3‑way calibration device, and an IR radiometer gives real‑time plate temperature.
Q4: Is it easy to operate?
A4: Absolutely. Auto‑ignition and an automatic specimen pusher remove guesswork. The whole system runs on a 19‑inch PC with LabVIEW software – set parameters, start, and let it run.
Q5: What are the installation and maintenance requirements?
A5: Install in a draft‑free room at 23 ± 5 °C and 50 ± 20 % RH, using propane gas. Maintenance: regularly clean the radiant plate and check output with a calibrated radiometer to keep accuracy.
Q6: Are there any optional extras?
A6: Yes – you can add a smoke density testing module to measure smoke production, giving a more complete fire‑safety profile without a separate machine.
