ASTM D3512 Random Tumble Pilling Tester
Purpose
This instrument is suitable for judging the resistance of fabrics to pilling and other surface defects, such as hairiness. It is suitable for various types of clothing fabrics. This instrument is not suitable for testing fabrics with silicone resin finishing (such as durable rainproof and soft finishing), because silicone will transfer to the cork liner and affect the test results
Principle
In order to imitate the friction effect during wearing, the sample and a small amount of gray short cotton fiber are added to the cylindrical test box and the cork liner is rubbed against each other. The test results are compared with the standard samples for subjective rating. Check the pilling on the surface of the sample to evaluate the pilling resistance of the sample, as a reference for improving the fabric technology.
